Chapter 1: And so it begins……….

She stared at the alarm clock, which lay beside her bed. She had been awake for almost an hour but she had not gotten up out of her bed yet. She knew that if she got up before 7 o’clock Anthony would beat her again. She sighed as she thought of everything he said the night before. About Gavin. She looked over and saw Gavin perched on the wooden seat, on the other side of the room. Gavin was the only pokémon in the house that she considered part of the family. Then there was the Donphan, which belonged to Anthony. “I hate that undersized elephant’’ she thought to herself.
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
She jumped in surprise when the alarm went off. It woke up Gavin with a start.
“ZUBAT!!!!!!!’’ It cried in shock as it began flapping around the room.
“SHUT THAT STUPID LITTLE THING UP, BOBBISU’’ Anthony yelled from inside her mums room. She did not consider him her father. Her true dad had died about three years ago.
“Gavin, Shhhh, your going to get me in trouble” She hissed more out of fear than spite. “Get down here now!!!!”
“ZUBAT, ZUBAT, ZUBA, ZU ZU BA ZUBAT”, Gavin continued to cry in utter confusion.“ZUBAT!!!!!”
“Gavin, Anthony won’t get you if you just come down and stop screeching, Hurry before we both get in trouble” She cried.
“DON’T MAKE ME COME IN THERE BOBBISU”
“Gavin, please get down” She begged. She could here Anthony making his way down the corridor.
“ZUBAT” He was too far-gone to quit now and Bobbisu knew she couldn’t stop him now.
Her bedroom door was flung open and before she could stop him, Anthony threw one of this hiking boots straight at Gavin’s head. It whacked into Gavin right between the eyes.
“ZUBAT” It cried in pain as it dropped to the ground in a dead faint.
Anthony began to walk towards Bobbisu with a purpose in his step. She started to back away but there was nowhere to go.
“You stupid little cow” He yelled in her face as she stared at the ground, not wanting to look into his eyes. He slapped her across the face.
“LOOK AT ME WHEN I AM TALKING TO YOU” He yelled at her. She placed her hand on her stinging red cheek and looked straight into Anthony’s eyes. She had learnt not to cry when she was hit. She’d just received another.
“Yes sir” She mumbled only just audibly.
“What was that?” He asked in malicious tones. “ What did you call me?”
“Yes Dad” She said much firmer than before.
“And don’t you forget it, Bobbisu”.
They heard an appreciating snort coming from the doorway. It was Jonathan; Anthony’s Donphan.It seemed to be enjoying Bobbisu’s pain.
“I will see you at breakfast” Anthony said as he made his way to the doorway.
He petted his Donphan on the head as he left the room, leaving Bobbisu alone with Gavin.
‘Gavin!’ she suddenly remembered. She walked to where the prone figure of the fallen Zubat lay motionless upon the floor. He had landed face first and had a trickle of blood pouring out of his mouth.
‘I told him to stop’ She thought to herself, not daring to say it out loud, in fear that Anthony would come back. She looked at blood pouring slowly from his mouth and decided that she would use the last revive she had managed to buy with the money she had earned. She walked across the room and as she approached the cabinet she stood on something sharp.
“OW” She cried, and then covered her mouth to make sure that no one heard her. She plopped down onto the floor and looked at her now bleeding foot.
There was something sharp and white stuck in the heel and it was a very deep cut. She pulled it out quickly to make sure that she wouldn’t cry out in pain. As she examined it she realised it was some kind of tooth. She glanced at Gavin, and the trickle of blood coming out of his mouth and as she thought about it she knew that Anthony had knocked out his tooth. ‘Poor Gavin’ she thought as she got up and walked painfully towards the cabinet once again.
She opened the doors and pulled out the last revive and started to use it on Gavin. As he slowly opened his eyes he heard Bobbisu talking To him gently, telling him not to cry out or Anthony would come back. This time he decided to heed her warning and keep his mouth closed.
“BOBBISU, BREAKFAST IS READY” Her mum called from the kitchen. She jumped at first and then whispered to Gavin.
“ I won’t be long ok? Don’t worry, just stay here” She carried him to the bed “and try to get some rest” with that she walked swiftly out of the room even though she had a wounded foot. After two years of being around Anthony she had learnt to withstand pain.
She bound down the stairs and saw her mother sitting at the table with Anthony and Anthony’s son, Crimson. Crimson was a lot nicer than Anthony and all though she did not consider him a brother she did treat him as a friend.
As she entered she suddenly remembered that she had not got into her school uniform as she was required to on school days, she prepared herself for another telling off, but it never came.
“ Are you going to sit down or not?! ” Crimson asked as he looked at her standing in the doorway.
“ I was about to change into my uniform, ” she said as she cowered before them, then she got a hold of herself, and said much more firmly “ I will go and change now”
“ Your not going to school today now sit down and eat your bacon ” Anthony said in a strangely nice voice. Jonathan looked up from his corner and snorted in shock at how polite his master was being to Bobbisu and stared straight ahead in confusion. ‘What a dense creature’ she thought to herself.
Not wanting to argue she sat down and began to eat her bacon sandwich in silence.
‘What’s going on?’ she thought to herself.
“Now don’t pack too much for your trip Bobbisu you won’t be gone longer than a day” Anthony said to her after about five minutes of silence.
“Where am I going?” Bobbisu asked in confusion.
“Lavender town” Her mother replied.
“Why? She asked even more confused than she was before.
“To visit the name rater,”Anthony said with a sadistic smile on his face.” I have learnt that I can’t get rid of the awful Zubat but I can at least change its name to something that is a little more appropriate”
As soon as he said it she knew what was going on. Gavin was the name of her true father before he died. She had to go all the way to Lavender to change Gavin’s name! That was ridiculous! But she did not want to argue yet.
“What do you consider a more appropriate name?” she asked in the same malicious tones as Anthony had been using before.
“Something like Noël or Joseph” He said staring straight into her eyes waiting for her reaction.
A zubat called Noël!!! That was so stupid it was almost unbearable trying not to laugh. Then it hit her, she realised that this was her chance to escape. She could get off at the stop in lavender and never get back on. She was certain that she could get some money together and she would have Gavin to protect her, If she was really lucky she could even catch some new Pokémon.She only had two real friends in the area, who she would miss a lot, Crimson and a boy called Kai who had already caught a pokemon squad. He had left when he was 10 years old and got a pokémon called squirtle from a man called professor Oak. He had not beaten the Elite four but he had his pokémon companions, which was what mattered to him. She would miss her two friends but if he could escape from Anthony then……….
“Ok, When am I leaving?” She asked trying not so sound as excited as she was.
“Um… 6 o’clock this evening” Said her mum surprised at how happy Bobbisu seemed.
“Ok mum, can I use the telephone before I go, I want to ring Kai”
“Sure, just don’t take along time”

Chapter 2: The one-toothed Zubat.

Gavin lay down on Bobbisu’s bed waiting for her to return from her breakfast meal. His wing hurt and felt as if it was broken, but he knew it was not. He had had a broken wing before (no thanks to Anthony) and it had been all bent out of shape and hurt a lot more than it did now. He spat out more blood onto Bobbisu’s bed and looked at the small pool of blood that was slowly forming beside his head. Luckily the flow of blood was beginning to slow, and soon it would stop completely. He ran his tongue around his gums and came to a sudden stop. There was a gap where one of his four main teeth should be. ‘This cannot be happening, this cannot be happening’ He thought to himself.
He rolled onto his side and looked across the room and sure enough his missing tooth could be seen across the other side. He sighed as he thought of what Anthony would do to him next. He had got Bobbisu in trouble and he knew that at this rate he was going to get kicked out onto the street. Then what would become of him? ‘ Hey why am I even thinking this, Bobbisu would never do that to me, not in a million years, Anthony would though ’ He sighed again wondering when the day would come when he could finally sink his teeth into Anthony. The thought made him smile and soon he was buried in his fantasies…

Bobbisu began to type the numbers into the telephone and, making sure that no one was around, rang Kai to tell him her plan.
‘Hello? This is Janice speaking how may I help you’
“Hi Janice, is Kai there please?”
“Oh Hi Bobbisu, I will just get him for you ok”
She could hear some faint rustling down the phone and then
“Hiya Bobbisu, wassup?”
She looked around to make sure no one was listening and then began her conversation
“Hi Kai, I have not got long but this is really important”
“Um…ok, I’m listening”
“I’m running away, tonight”
“WHAT?!”
“My parents are sending me to Lavender town to Change Gavin’s name, I’m going to get off at Lavender and I’m not coming back, I wanted to tell you, and I want you to tell Crimson that I said good bye but I couldn’t risk Anthony finding out, ok?”
“ WOAH! Hang on there Bobbisu, that’s insane, at least let me come with you, I have travelled around before remember, I can leave without getting in trouble, then you…”
“No Kai, I want to do this on my own, I’m sorry, I want to thank you for everything, and I will come back to see you one day”
“But…”
“I will come up and see you ok? Then we can talk properly.”
“Bobbisu” He moaned down the phone.
“Good bye Kai”
He sighed “Bye Bobbisu”
She put down the phone and sighed.
“So, your gonna run away” said a voice from the door
Bobbisu turned around in shock but sighed in relief to see it was only Crimson who was standing in the doorway. Then she saw the anger in his eyes and remembered that Anthony was his father and Crimson might tell. She had to stop him.
“You don’t trust me do you Bobbisu, having Kai tell me instead of yourself, so is that what you really think of me, Bobbisu?”
“Crimson, its not like that and you know it, I was worried that you might tell Anthony” she said in annoyance, he was trying to make her feel guilty and it was working.
“I wouldn’t do that to you Bobbisu, were friends, right?”
She smiled as she looked at him.
“I’m sorry Crimson, you are right, you are my friend and I do trust you” she walked up to Crimson and stared him straight in the eye.
“Follow Me,” she whispered in his ear. He hesitated for only a second and then began to follow her down the hallway toward the front door.
“I will be back in a minute” Bobbisu called as she reached for the door handle.
“I’m going to pick up a town map from Kai so I can trace the route I take to Lavender”.
“Right” Anthony snorted from the Kitchen.
The two friends began walking up to Kai’s in silence both thinking about what life will be like without the other around. They soon reached Kai’s house and knocked on the door. Kai answered.
“Bobbisu!”
“Are you coming out?”
“Sure”
Kai disappeared back inside the house and returned a few seconds later with his shoes on and they all walked around the side of the house into the back yard.
As they all sat down Bobbisu got out here Kakuna penknife and pointed the blade at the back of her hand.
“This is going to hurt you a lot more than it will hurt me” she said to the two boys in front of her and then sliced four neat cuts on her hand in the shape of a star and, as the two boys looked on in horror, she wrote the initials B, C, K on her hand still using the Kakuna penknife.
“What are you doing?!” Crimson asked in confusion.
“Have you lost it?!” Kai asked, the same look of confusion on his face.
“It’s so we can see each other again actually, look” she held her now bleeding hand out and wiped the blood away.” The star is to represent the four of us friends and B, C, K stands for Bobbisu, Crimson, Kai.Now it’s your turn”
“Hang on, there are only three of us here not four and secondly I am NOT doing that!”Kai stated.
“Kai the forth person in our group is Gavin who cannot be here right now and I am not going to make you if you don’t want too”.
She handed the knife to Crimson, who shut his eyes tight and, much slower than Bobbisu, made the same cuts on his hand and then he passed the penknife to Kai
“Well I’m not going to be the coward”Kai said and pointed the knife in the correct position.
“One, two, three ahhhhh”He cried out as he made the slices on the back of his hand.
Now all three of them were bleeding and as they tried to apply pressure, the small group sat in silence.
‘Why did I do that?’Kai thought to himself’Oh boy, I know why I did it, cause I didn’t want to let Bobbisu down’ He sighed to himself’ I sure will miss her’
‘This sucks’ Crimson thought as he looked at the people around him.
He looked over to Kai ‘I don’t even like that guy, he’s so cocky and selfish, but then again if he’s friends with Bobbisu then I don’t wanna openly say how much I hate him’ he glanced over to Bobbisu and sighed to himself’ I sure will miss her’
‘I hope Gavin’s Ok’ Bobbisu thought to herself’ I will have to take him with me but I don’t want him to battle unless he has too’ she looked at Kai and thought of the many pokémon he had caught, then she glanced at Crimson, both of them sitting with depressed looks on there faces, and sighed to herself’ I sure will miss them’.
