Ratty is one of the most famous Pokémon, not only because he's Red's favorite Pokémon, but also because he's so insanely strong.

Ratty is the reason that Red was able to get where he is today. Although the two of them got off to a rocky start, Red's love and dedication for Ratty helped him grow into the Raticate he is today. Ratty is strong, stronger then any Raticate should be, and he, unlike most, doesn't let that go to his head. Ratty is a strictly no-nonsense kind of Pokémon, not one for joking or toying around. He likes to get things done simply and well, and he's dead serious in battle.

Ratty never dreams, something that he won't admit to anyone, and he does not know why. He hates to admit he's wrong and hates weakness even more. He hates people who give up, he hates weak Pokémon, and he hates whiners. He also hates people who judge things on appearances, as he is fully aware that Raticates are not the most attractive things in the world.

Ratty strongly disapproves of Radic and Red's relationship, not liking Radic in the least. He still holds deep grudges against many of Radic's Pokémon, particularly Accident, and he hates Radic's weak, submissive nature. Ratty, however, does not view Radic's blindness as weakness.

Ratty intensely dislikes Radic, and holds no respect towards his defeated enemies. He has little respect for psychics either, and dislikes their types immensely. He will never accept a defeat by them as a defeat, and his speed and skill usually make it so a defeat rarely happens.

Ratty is extremely dangerous. He WILL attack humans and other Pokémon if he feels he has to, and will defend Red with his life. He is not afraid to leap or attack things many times his size, and fights with unknown ferocity. He is afraid of almost nothing, and is the first to rush forward in a crisis. He, because of his ratlike nature, is attracted to shiny things, and needs to chew on things constantly to keep his fangs under control. He chitters a lot, especially when he's thinking. Although he is strong, he is somewhat intelligent, but there are Pokémon that far surpass him in that area. He does not appreciate being called names in the least, and will attack anyone who insults him or Red.
