Radic began his journey at the customary age, a little behind his rival, Red. This was a pattern that would repeat eternally through out both their journeys. Red would always get their first, Red would always beat the Gym Leader first, get the Pokémon first, and eventually Red would reach the Pokémon League and defeat Lance, becoming the Pokémon League champion first.
Because of this, Radic has always had an inferiority complex. This is made worse by his Pokémon, who have their own emotional problems and have a tendency to do what they want in battle.
Radic's hatred for Red festered for most of his training career and it culminated in him challenging Red, who had just become League Champion, to a battle on national television. Radic lost.
After that loss, Radic has never won a single battle. He has a singular reputation of being a foolhardy loser, overconfident and reckless for challenging a League Champion so soon after they had just been crowned. Almost everyone in Kanto knows about him and what he tried to do, and almost everyone finds him a laughingstock because of it.
Refusing to give up, Radic continued to challenge Red when he could, but continued to lose no matter how hard he tried. One day, after a rather bad storm, Radic found himself hosting Red in his tent against his will. A fight over a Tauros ended with the two of them rolling off a cliff. With slight injuries, the two fought and argued their way through the forest, trying to find their way back. After they encountered Myk, a rather hostile trainer, and found their lost Pokémon, they attempted to scale the cliff they fell off. Radic made it. Red didn't.
Radic blamed himself for Red's death and felt incredibly guilty. He stumbled through his adventures afterwards wondering about the purpose of his life, and in particular Red's place in it. During this time, he lost his sight during a series of rather unfortunate events.
It wasn't until much later that Radic learned that Red was alive, much to his relief. Of course, as soon as the two met again, they began to argue, this time over Radic's denial of his blindness.
This ended with Red storming off and Radic working himself into a depression. After some more misadventures, the two eventually reconciled with Radic's acceptance of his disability, and they headed home.
In Continuum, Radic and Red continued to travel towards home, accompanied by Violet. After a particularly bad nightmare about the Manachu, Radic asked Red if he could stay with him during the night. Red reluctantly allowed this.
Violet however found them this way and went hysterical, unable to accept the fact that Radic, whom she had a crush on, could love anyone but herself. Radic and Red both vehemently denied such a claim, and the night ended in a series of misunderstandings and hurt feelings.
Finally arriving home, Red found that he had to deal with some of Radic's rogue Pokémon, who had decided to challenge the Elite Four without a Trainer, against all previous protocol. Red was hurt during the battle by Alec, Radic's old Alakazam, and Radic waited for him to recover while Violet continually harrassed him about returning her feelings.
When Red woke up, Radic vented his feelings about how he'd always felt inferior to him, about how he was always in second place and that he'd never accomplish his dreams. That he was a terrible trainer that only hurt his Pokémon, and that the only thing he ever seemed to do was fail. Red disagreed, the two of them argued again, and to prove to Radic that someone could care about him regardless of all his imagined faults, he kissed him.
Radic suddenly realized what the feeling that had been stirring in his heart since Red had fallen off the cliff was longing. Their rivalry had developed into a strange kind of loving friendship over their time spent together, and that Radic finally felt comfortable with. Red gave him the necklace he now wears to remind him that no matter how bad he felt about himself, Red would always be there.
Violet refused to accept their relationship, and continued to try and intercede or get in the way. Red of course would have none of it, and Red and Violet became enemies, fighting constantly. Radic became the object of contention. Everything became complicated and, tired of conflict, Radic longed for simpler days when he was just a trainer...
Radic left several times, to try and get some time to himself. Each time this ended badly, one of his Pokémon somehow getting injured or lost. Still, something in him tells him to wander, and the world around him seems to get larger by the day...
When the pathway to Johto was discovered, along with the possibility of all new Pokémon, both Radic and Red felt that call very strongly. They decided to make an agreement, to go back to the root of everything. They would seal their Pokémon and start over again in the new region, finding new Pokémon and winning badges until one day, they would again fight to find out who was better. A renewal of their rivalry, although this time they understood each other much better and there was no hatred. Only the joint acceptance of what truly motivated them to try.
This pattern would repeat for every new region that would open up to them...starting anew to rekindle the rivalry that is the base of their relationship. The two of them kept in contact throughout their travels in new lands, comparing achievements and Pokémon or telling each other of the new things they had found.
Radic's bad luck, where he would constantly lose every battle he fought, changed whenever he entered a new region and his rivalry with Red was renewed. Like before, he would win despite all odds until he would fight Red. No matter how much time passed, Radic still can't beat Red, but it's simply something he's come to accept, rather than resent. When he loses to Red, his luck changes and he begins to lose again, but by that point Radic is usually content with his chosen team and spending time with them, rather than battling.
As years went by, Radic grew calmer and more mature, able to handle his emotions with more control, and to appreciate the relationship he had with Red as more than simply codependent. Red likewise developed as time went on, and the two of them have changed and grown together, mostly for the better. They still bicker constantly or fight over small things, but they both understand that in the end, they'll still be together.
Radic has an easy rapport with Pokémon and makes friends with them easily. He also has an almost unlimited font of patience, which is vital for the widely disparate and occasionally grating personalities of the Pokémon he becomes attached to. Radic gets a "feeling" whenever he sees a Pokémon that he belongs with, and he will do anything to follow this feeling and capture that Pokémon. It's through this "feeling" that Radic decides on his team, although he generally feels more that his team is more of a joint decision by all the Pokémon involved. The Feeling is rare and impossible to predict, and Radic trusts it so much that he has gone through entire regions with only four or two Pokémon, because they're the only ones that he feels he can really trust and bond with.
In Kanto, Radic's team consists of Kitsune the Ninetales, Ruby the Persian, Nova the Raichu, Takachan the Dodrio, Accident the Blastoise, and Callima the Parasect. This is Radic's first team and the one that he by far feels the most attached to. They have been through everything together, and Radic trusts and loves them more than anything.
In Johto, Radic's team has Poe the Noctowl, Chirin the Ampharos, Dipsy the Quagsire, Fauntleroy the Houndoom, Rezna the Piloswine, and Chopan the Girafarig. Radic used Poe's psychic abilities to let him "see" the Johto Pokémon and discover which were meant for him. The Feeling generally only clicks when Radic sees a Pokémon, although occasionally the Pokémon's voice can call to him. From this point on, Radic would rely on his psychic Pokémon to help him "see", by switching consciousnesses with him for a few seconds. It's not very long, but it's something.
In Hoenn, Radic's team is bit less developed as the Feeling did not kick in as much and it's not as set in stone as his others. Currently Saeb the Sableye, Natalie the Shedinja, Gulliver the Pelipper, Vrummy the Zangoose, and Rollo the Walrein are the ones he feels the fondest of so far.
In Sinnoh, the Feeling has barely kicked in at all, and all that Radic has really felt true devotion for are three Pokémon: Farnsworth the Lucario, Splotchy the Torterra, and Yanni the Chatot. He hasn't spent a lot of time in Sinnoh though, and still remains optimistic that he'll find the final three for his team.
While at the beginning of a new region, Radic and Red would seal their old Pokémon to start anew, after Red has battled everyone and won and Radic has lost to him, the drive to compete decreases, and they allow each other to use their older Pokémon. Radic in particular is deeply attached to his Pokémon, and he's always glad to have his Kanto team with him again, although they rarely get along with any new Pokémon he has. Red, of course, always feels better with Ratty by his side.
Radic still travels to this day, looking for new friends and exploring their continually expanding world...
Radic is a fairly average looking boy, only notable for his pink eyes and the fact that he and Red look almost exactly alike. He cares for his Pokémon and for Red more than anything, despite their flaws or rough spots. He's somewhat paranoid because of his blindness and doesn't like sudden movements or noises. He usually has one of his psychic Pokémon by him to allow him to "see" for a second (usually Poe or Chopan, although he's used Saeb and Natalie a few times, even though it's even more disorienting). He's also recently began to rely on Farnsworth's Wave sensing abilities to help him see other people's auras. His voice is soft and unassuming, and he generally doesn't talk very much to other people, although he'll chat with his Pokémon for hours.
Radic doesn't really like conflict, and since his luck at battling is usually bad, he doesn't like battling either. He dislikes hearing his Pokémon in pain, and prefers to just wander and spend time with them rather than force them to get hurt for his sake. He holds himself responsible for their welfare and behavior, which gets him into trouble quite a bit with Pokémon like Kitsune or Saeb who have a knack for causing trouble.
While he was easily depressed when he was younger, Radic has been developing some more self-confidence through his travels in different areas and Red's constant support, and in general is at least in a fairly good mood. While disheartened by his losses, he doesn't let it rule him like it used to, and while he still doubts his abilities at times and feels responsible for some of his Pokémon's problems (notably Accident), he tries not to focus on it as much anymore. After all, it's been some years since he first began and he's seen a great deal, and he's matured over time for it.
Radic is still not very confident in himself or his abilities, but he will generally at least try once. He's kind and tries to help others when he can, especially Pokémon who have no one else to turn to. Due to some of his Pokémon's abrasive personalities, Radic has a lot of experience dealing with cruel, sarcastic, snobbish, narcissistic people, and therefore Radic can handle talking with almost anyone without flipping out, no matter how obnoxious they may be. While generally solitary, Radic isn't opposed to talking to other people. He just doesn't do it very often...he'd rather spend time by himself or with his Pokémon.
Radic dislikes the color white and rain, and he's still rather sensitive and it's not terribly hard to make him cry, although he's not as bad as he used to be. He's afraid of caves, since he has a tendency to get lost in them and bad things happen to him when he's in them.
Radic has been in An Epic Battle, Aftermath, Radic and Red, Continuum, Veni Vidi Vici, Nemo me Impune Lacessit, Together Forever, and Forever Together.
He has been mentioned in Howl of a Growlithe and several other fics.
