Max was the leader of Cerulean Gym. He had an unnatural obsession with Conkista, and always tried to impress her. When she suddenly vanished, he took very hard, and in a way something in him snapped. Although she was gone, he wanted to find some way to get her attention, and then Kame came to him.
Kame also wanted to impress someone, Red to be specific, and the two of them, as they began speaking to eachother more and more, lost more and more touch with reality. Soon the best plan for both of them, they decided, to get what they wanted was to attack the Vermillion Gym. Once there, they killed and slaughtered unmercifully, but one girl escaped. Ella E. Determined that there should be no witnesses, the two pursued her, struggling to kill her, using Ashstar as an informant. When they finally did catch up with her in the Manachu's cave, they quickly dispatched her friends, and advanced on Ella E. Then something they didn't expect happened.
Ella E struck back with Saph's Fire, knocking Max and Kame out, presumably killing them.
Kame was found later, but Max has yet to be located. No one is sure whether or not he is dead or alive, or if he'll come back at some point to haunt everyone.
