Kax is a friend of Dr. Kagakusha. They met a long time ago, back when they were still both in high school and were assigned to be lab partners. Kagakusha, who was insanely anti-social and hated other people, particularly hated Kax because of her outgoing and cheerful behavior. However, while working on the lab at home, Kagakusha discovered that no matter what she tried, she was not able to frighten Kax into leaving her alone. Kax simply listened and nodded, something that people almost never did for her. Kagakusha, unable to stand in the face of such quiet comprehension, broke down and told her everything, about her stifling parents, her loss of control over her own life, her strange ideas, and her loneliness. Again, Kax did not run away or get angry at her, only comforting her and telling her that she would always be there. And thus began their friendship.

Kagakusha clung closely to Kax, because she was the only real friend she had ever had, and Kax understood and said nothing. It didn't bother her very much. She understood how moody her friend was, how she would shift from one mood to the next for no reason, from insane anger to sobbing tears, and all of this Kax took in and never complained. She knew how much Kagakusha needed her, and didn't begrudge her that.

Several times Kax tried to get Kagakusha to open up more to her, taking her stargazing or talking to her about how she felt. Sometimes she would cry during the long, midnight conversations the two shared, but more often then not it was Kagakusha that would end in tears. Kax was used to having to be the strong one in a relationship, and she was used to having people depend on her. However, when she needed to, she was surprised that Kagakusha could be just as comforting. It struck her as strange, as no relationship she had ever had had let her be weak as well.

However, Kax was at heart, a wandering spirit, and could not settle for the sedate path that it looked like Kagakusha was going to take, and she made one of the hardest decisions of her life. She decided that she was going to become a Pokémon trainer and leave Kagakusha to herself. Kagakusha was insane with fury and grief that Kax would abandon her this way, saying that Kax was too old to be traipsing about the country side looking for monsters, but Kax again took this in stride, and her calm, easy-going nature helped her to understand. She gave her a gift from her massive collection of scarves, something that Kax loved, and took one for herself, a bright yellow one that contrasted nicely with Kagakusha's blue scarf. She then said goodbye and headed out. On her journey she caught many Pokémon and began to be followed by an annoying, full-of-himself boy that she could not get rid of. However, her mind always dwelled on Kagakusha, whether she was okay or not, and she wished often that she could get in contact with her. However, circumstances and money were always a problem, and Kax felt as if she might never hear from her best friend again. Until she decided to go searching for her on the internet.

Ghosting on forums about Pokémon Genes, something she knew Kagakusha was fascinated with, she finally found an email address that sounded like her. So she began emailing Kagakusha, sending he things to remind her that she existed, and she knew that she was doing the right thing. From what she could tell, Kagakusha wasn't doing to good by herself, and Kax was constantly worried for her, even though she never showed it. Kax needed Kagakusha just as badly as she needed her. Kagakusha to her presented reality, something which everyone else she spoke to seemed to lack. Although they spoke so wonderfully about how things were and how they felt, and how they could never hate this or that, Kax longed for Kagakusha's open manner. Kagakusha wasn't afraid to say she hated something, and although sometimes her statements were cryptic, Kax knew that Kagakusha really understood what was going on. Everyone around her seemed so empty, so meaningless, and she felt as if she and Kagakusha were the only ones who truly understood the world for what it was.

Kax missed Kagakusha more each day, and even her Pokémon could no console her. Although she did love the wandering life, she couldn't bear to be away from her friend this long. She vowed to join Kagakusha as soon as possible, and called to tell her this. When she did, however, Kagakusha's voice belied more pain then she had ever heard before, and her heart burned. She headed over to the college where Kagakusha was staying as quickly as possible, and found Kagakusha a hopeless wreck, trying to keep her mind together while curled underneath a desk, her legs scarred horribly, shivering in a ball. She tried to remain calm in Kax's presence, but in the end she gave in. Kax listened to Kagakusha's horrific story, of how she was so hated and feared, and how everything had fallen apart since she had left. Kagakusha had even made a doll of her. Not frightened of this seeming obsession, Kax gave Kagakusha what she needed the most that night, which was the strength that she was lacking and the conviction to what Kagakusha had trouble believing was right.

Kax stayed as long as she could, but in the end she had to leave and continue her journey, despite her feelings that she would be better off staying with her friend. But she took to the road again, no other option open to her. Kax is a kind person, who can be cold or angry at times with people who are cruel for no reason. She believes in the philosophy that everyone is hiding something, and that no one is truly evil. She cares deeply for Kagakusha and she is probably her only true best friend. She will help others in need willingly, and loves holidays and get togethers. She's generally cheerful and optimistic, although the seeming airhead or carefree demeanor holds a sharp, intelligent mind. She can match Kagakusha for intelligence, but her spirit and path is much more free. She loves the outdoors and all kinds of creatures, and generally tries to walk around barefoot if possible. She's extremely accepting of others and will greet people she doesn't even know with open arms. She has almost an obsession with scarves, the kind that float in the air before they hit the ground, and collects them wherever she goes. She always wears a bright yellow one, the only yellow scarf in her collection, and other then that wears complete black. No one really knows why. She washes her scarf daily and keeps several in her bag.
